The human eye can see light waves that range from about 400-700nm. Infrared light exists in wavelengths beyond 700nm. My IR images are created with a Fujifilm XT-1 that has been converted to see near-infrared wavelengths, in the 700nm-1200nm range. This is different than thermal infrared, which images far into the infrared spectrum.
Processing the RAW files to create monochrome images captures the world around me, in what is literally a different light. The resulting images can be ethereal, surreal, sometimes spooky—and are often a surprise to me, even after years of shooting infrared.
I love surprises.
